Meaning disputed
In Persian and Urdu tradition Āṣaf is the vizier of Solomon, and the word came to mean a wise minister (Steingass). It is a different word from Arabic asif (أسف), grieving; popular meanings like 'forgiving' have no support.
The word is real, but sources or popular claims disagree about the name. Each reading is shown with its source.
